2,000 new jobs created with the National Skills Academy
- 12-Jan-2010 The government has announced funding for the creation of 2,000 new jobs in sport through the National Skills Academy for Sport and Active Leisure.
The announcement by Work and Pensions Secretary, Yvette Cooper, at this week's TUC Conference is part of the £1 billion Future Jobs Fund.
Driving the bid, the National Skills Academy has brought together for the first time a range of major partners from across the sport sector, employers, training providers and the community at large including Sports England, Youth Sport Trust, the Amateur Swimming Association, SkillsActive, the Princes Trust and Dame Kelly Holmes Legacy Trust.
Working on behalf of the DCMS, the National Skills Academy will give small employers access to training that they were unable to pay for in the past.
Florence Orban, CEO at the National Skills Academy, says: "We are delighted to be leading this bid. We will be offering new jobs with real prospects for young people and mapping their career journey into our sector.
"This funding opens up opportunities for employment and training that simply would not be possible without it. We are committed to promoting sport in the community and we are working with organisations which understand the needs of disenfranchised young people."
