This Level 4 Management of Lower Back Pain course is a high level qualification providing the key skills and knowledge pathway to becoming a REPs Level 4 Specialist Exercise Coach. The course is a REPs Level 4 qualification and is supported by leading industry experts in the field of lower back pain management. What does the course cover?:
This certificate is made up of five key modules:
1. Epidemiology of back pain – including: the prevalence in the UK and the effect of activity and inactivity on back pain, the classification of low back pain and the psychosocial components of low back pain.
2. Anatomy and physiology of back pain – including: the structure of the lumbar spine and vertebrae; the local and global muscles of the lower back; the passive and active sub systems and understanding pain.
3. Exercise referral processes and communication skills – including: understanding the referral process, relevant medico-legal requirements, understanding scope of practice and communicating skills.
4. Assessment and screening – including: collecting client information; client assessments; understanding the precautions and contraindications, psychosocial assessment and functional/physical assessment.
5. Programme design – including: what are the progressive programme design considerations; how to provide psychosocial support, establishing and monitoring exercise quotas and intensity.

4-8 weeks home study followed by
2 days of practical attendance workshop & 1 day of assessment

Candidates should hold at least a Level 3 Advanced Instructor Qualification as listed and recognised by REPs.
