Both Colin Imrie and Jon Lamb have over 30 years experience each of working with vulnerable and challenging young people in social care, outdoor and education environments. They have also both managed high profile businesses which specialise in using the outdoors to engage with some of the most difficult young people in the country.  

Safeguarding  

Safeguarding currently has a very high profile when working with all children and young people. This is a vital issue for all those working with children and young people. It is important that the wellbeing of those we work with is ensured and that all child protection issues are dealt with appropriately. It is also important that all workers are up to date and confident in dealing with child protection issues, in order that they are able to deal with past or current issues. 

Managing challenging behaviour  

The number of young people with difficult or challenging behaviours participating in outdoor activities is increasing. Higher standards, legislation and increased expectations are placed on staff dealing with these vulnerable young people. Accordingly, it is imperative that we understand how to deal effectively, safely and legally with these young people, in order to avoid allegations and child protection issues arising. Most situations related to difficult or challenging behaviour can be avoided if we are aware of ourselves, aware of our clients, act appropriately and plan for good behaviour.
